Midterm Wrap-Up: What Happened, and What to Expect

On Tuesday, November 7, citizens across the nation took to the polls for midterm elections. Much was at stake, and many considered the 2018 midterm election to be a direct review of President Trump’s first two years in office. If that’s the case, there were definitely some mixed results after the dust settled and, in many races, it still continues to do so. Advocacy Update: Analysis of Tax Reform and Its Impact on Education

After months of debate, conferencing, and closed-door deals, Republicans in Congress passed a sweeping tax reform bill—H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act—that was signed into law by President Trump on December 22, 2017.

Advocacy Update: Tracking ESSA

National Principals Month

Although we are nearing the end of National Principals Month, there is still time to advocate important issues. For example, when Congress passed a short-term continuing resolution (CR) that funds the government up to December 9, cuts were made across the board to a number of key education programs. When representatives return to Washington, D.C. after the election, new funding discussions will begin.

National Principals Month

National Principals Month continues moving along with NASSP co-hosting an event on Capitol Hill this week entitled “Revolutionizing School Leadership Under ESSA.” As states and districts begin implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), it is important to understand how the law can provide unprecedented support for principals and other educators. This event will bring in current and former principals and educators to discuss both the policy and practitioner perspective on how to best support school leadership to improve school outcomes.
