The annual 2020 NASSP Advocacy Conference heads to the Washington, D.C., metro area this March. Time is running out to secure your free registration and guarantee your chance to advocate on Capitol Hill for better education across America.

On March 23–25, join fellow administrators, teachers, parents, and community members at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA as they come together in a unified voice to discuss the most pressing issues affecting our school leaders and the students they serve. The conference is one of the biggest opportunities to effect real change in the education system at the federal level. “We are all in this together,” said previous conference attendee Jason Mix, principal of Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School in Howard Lake, MN. “If we don’t speak up, there is a possibility that no one else will.”

This three-day event includes a riveting keynote address by Charlie Cook, notable political analyst for NBC News and editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report. Cook will share thoughtful, intelligent insight about the current state of political affairs in the United States as he energizes the audience, setting the stage for the remainder of the conference.

The NASSP Advocacy Conference will also provide targeted, hands-on training for all attendees, equipping them with the knowledge and resources they need to feel prepared to meet with policymakers. “At the last Advocacy Conference, I heard from experienced educators on how to approach a meeting with our congressional leaders,” said Daniel Richards, Principal of Georgetown Middle/High School in Georgetown, MA. “At times it can be intimidating to hold these conversations, but NASSP builds your confidence by building your knowledge.”

During the Capitol Hill Day event on the last day of the conference, attendees will use what they’ve learned in their trainings and meet directly with members of Congress and their staffs—forcing them to see the real faces behind the issues that need their support. “The highlight of the conference was the opportunity to travel to Capitol Hill and meet with staffers from our congressional districts and advocate for additional funding for public school students,” said Chris LeGrande, Principal of Guthrie High School in Guthrie, OK. “Being able to share personal stories of how Title monies are being utilized within our school district to support professional development initiatives and to support underrepresented student groups was very satisfying. Furthermore, the chance to speak on behalf of our students to ensure an equitable education for all was rewarding as well.”

Registration will close on February 16, 2020, so there’s no time to waste! And, registration for the conference is completely free.
